Tasmanian Craft Fair 2017 Hot Glass Trailer Feature Artist - Verity Jasmin Burley
We are excited to announce that Verity Jasmin Burley will be our guest demonstrator and feature artist for this years Tasmanian Craft Fair. You'll be able to see Verity blowing glass on the Poatina Hot Glass Trailer at Venue 7 (Deloraine Showgrounds) between 10am and 4pm each day of the fair, which runs from Friday 3rd to Monday 6th November 2017 (inclusive).
Artist's Biography
Originally from Melbourne; Verity Jasmin Burley travelled to England in 2001 as the first ambassador and exchange student working in glass to represent the University of South Australia. Initially relocating from Perth to undertake a Sculpture major at Edith Cowan University in Western Australia; which is where her love affair with glass came into fruition. After graduating in 2004 with a Masters Degree in glass from the University of Sunderland, Verity has worked for various international glass makers and artists during her ongoing career. In the last few years notably working for the Corning Museum of Glass, NY as a Glassblower at Sea on board the Celebrity ‘Solstice’ & ‘Eclipse’. Now based in Adelaide, South Australia working with quartz glass daily and making her own artistic work that provokes her psyche is a dream come true for the glassblower.
Artist's Statement:
Glass is my favoured medium although more recently I have incorporated mixed media into my work; the making process allows me to generate ideas that stimulate my creativity. Having assisted a variety of Artists and Makers in the UK, Australia & the USA my creativity is continuously in development whereby extending my existing skill base and personal profile. I use glass to express my visual language by making artistic forms and functional products for sale commercially or for exhibitions. I enjoy the challenge of working with glass using hot, warm or cold glass making techniques to create work that other people may enjoy or love.
