Kiln-formed Glass

(Morning Elective)*

Join Merinda Young and try a range of different glass making options using kiln-forming techniques (taking glass and heating it in a kiln). This elective is suitable for absolute beginners as well as those with some experience who’d like to learn new techniques. We’ll learn to cut and shape glass and fire it to 'fuse' different coloured glasses together, then 'slump' the resulting pieces into various forms. We can use sand to create texture and designs to slump glass into; make small, colourful useful dishes; draw or paint your own artwork onto glass; create wearable glass art, like earrings, and brooches. The week will be about exploring colour and design though the medium of glass.

*Please note this elective attracts an additional fee of $110 per person to help cover the cost of materials, electricity and specialised tools. When registering online, please make sure to select the add-on Kiln-formed Glass elective fee.

Merinda Young has worked as a glass maker/ designer for over thirty years, with a particular focus on stained glass and kiln formed glass for architectural settings. She has travelled to study with some amazing glass artists from around the work and loves to pass on her skills and knowledge through teaching workshops and mentoring. When not making glass, thinking about glass or chilling with other glassies, Merinda loves nothing better than quiet time with a book or a chat and a cuppa with friends and a walk on the beach with her dog.
