Fiction
‘Don't tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass.’ Anton Chekov
A natural storyteller sometimes has an advantage when it comes to writing fiction, however what works when read aloud may not work on the page. Only one or two books are published out of every ten thousand manuscripts submitted to major publishers. Before reaching the end of the first sentence, many editors have already decided to turn a novel down.
If you're aspiring to be published one day, join several award-winning authors in the crucible where we'll teach you the techniques to get noticed:
-
'show, don't tell' (what Chekov's talking about)
-
'narrative hook'
-
'point of view and head-hopping'
-
pace
-
structural positioning of climax
-
and more, all as it pertains to your manuscript.
This mentoring workshop is for writers who have already taken the first step. There will no writing exercises per se, rather your own work will be addressed. Non-fiction is welcome but the briefings in conjunction with the workshop will be directed mainly towards the craft of fiction. One chapter of your manuscript should be emailed to our ministry partners, Omega Writers, ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) by December 31, 2011.
